Changing Tide: Thank God!

“The establishment is winning,
Now the battle's nearly won.
The rebels are conforming,
See the father, now the sons.
All the urgency and energy
Have turned into complacency,
Now the schools and universities are turning out
A brand new breed of young conservatives.
Conservatives.”
--Ray Davies of The Kinks, “Young Conservatives,” 1983.

Their legion of fans are immuned to the diseases these two have developed over the years--which is also quite sad to me. I am all for cheering on your team, but a time MUST exist when a person stands up and says, "there are wrongs in the world." Rush and Bill are examples of two of the most "wrong" people that have ever gained attention from such a mass amount of foolish people. Then again, the public was also stupid enough to vote in President Bush the second time.
I actually enjoy watching Keith Obermann more and more.
After teaching civics this summer to a fairly open-minded class from a fairly conservative text; I must admit I was worried. People should really read the Constitution more and citizens should study precedents set by the Supreme Court with more details. I mean, the past cases show mistaken rulings that were corrected with the idea that we are a nation willing to accept change (ala Plessy v. Ferguson).
Bill O’Reilly and Rush Limbaugh have a true problem; and that problem is they cannot admit they are wrong and have blindly backed the wrong administration.
Now I fully recognize that someone paid full price for the books I saw, still it seems symbolic that people are willing to have them removed at such a low price. What is even better is the idea that at such a cheap price, no one is touching them because people feel cheated reading their sinister and caustic rhetoric.

Honestly, the only time I could think that someone might actually READ that mindless dribble is by accidently picking up a page blowing down the street in the wind.... thinking... oh what's this... and then quickly realizing it's the word of two very "self-absorbed" men. 50cents for those books is a rip off- I bet by the end of the day they were begging people to take them so that they wouldn't be embarrassed when future house guests browsed through their bookself collections and found those two symbols of...I'm sure... very UNINTERESTING reading ;-)
"The nation has grown tired of the hate speech" and yet you say things like:
- If I had a lighter, I would have bought them and burned them in effigy.
- your crappy writing and banal ideas are no longer of interest; no longer touted; no longer worth a damn thing. Yay!!!
- Since Rush was first, he can be “dumber"
- as their vomit spews over the minds of the easily paranoid. Face it folks, the only two people worst than these two pseudo Nazi’s is Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity.
This doesn't sound very tolerant or loving, in fact it sounds rather hateful. It comes across as angry and vicious, but I know that as a liberal that would never be possible, but I thought you may want to know how it comes across. I appreciate the passion with which you write though. = )
As much as hate to say it, alex d. is right. The hard thing with blogging or email is that one never knows the tone of the statement. I would agree with alex d. Now I think that both of these "men" are hypocrites(that starts the list) but it is great that we live in Country that people have the right to spew whatever vitriol that they want without the fear of jail time or death. Accept the fact that these two exist and remember that the only liberal spokesperson of any note is Al Franken. He says basically the same things, but from the liberal side. Same guy, different suit.
There. I feel better.
Keith
Keith O is a hoot. I watch his show every chance I get.
Rush and Bill O have their following. It was so hard for me to work with some of our colleagues who worship these two.
Anne Coulter is scary. Her rhetoric is problematic since she loved the attention. It still irks me when I think of how she described the Sept. 11 widows.
